HAEREPO SOLD.
TO GO TO BRISBANE. (By “Spectator.”) Tho tliree-year-old gelding Haerepo, by Nightmarch from tho Chief ltulcr Azalea, has been sold by his breeder, Mr P. V. Mason, to Mr W. T. Kelly, Brisbane, at a price of about 700 guineas. Haerepo won three races, including two at Ellerslie, for Mr Mason and, although he has not done a groat deal of racing, he has shown marked ability .and is the makings of a high-class four-year-old. Very Fast Sprint. Poker Dice (G. Smith) jumped away at the five-furlong post at Taka null tho other morning and went four furlongs m 48 2-ssec. running the last two in the brilliant time of 22sec. Turf Career Ended. Gold Boa has made her last appearance on a race track, serious trouble having developed in a suspensory ligament. Next season tho brilliant Balboa marc will probably be booked to Paladin. A Rich Stake. The committee of the Auckland Racing Club has decided to allot £2OOO as tho slake for the Great Northern Derby In 1940. The present value of the Great Northern Derby is £1250. All the_ other classic races were renewed at their present value.
Alloa’s Winnings. Four wins by Alloa have brought him to £2O below the back winning limit. Ilis early racing efforts were marred by nervousness, but he is now well-conducted at the barrier, and he should now win his share of races. Ilis dam, Tetranella, is an unraced half-sister to Flying Juliet, winner of the Great Northern Oaks in 1927.
Ben Braggie Changes Hands. Negotiations have been completed for the purchase of the live-year-old gelding Ben Braggie on behalf of an overseas buyer, and arrangements will be made for him to leave the Dominion in tho near future. By Gascony from Valley Rose, Ben Braggie is one of , the best sprinters in the Dominion, and at his last start he, carried 9.3, to victory in the City Handicap at Trontham, running tho six furlongs in 1.12 j. Well-Bred Yearling.
The yearling colt by Bulandshar from The Begum has had the name High Caste claimed for him. lie is a halfbrother to Stretto and Mazir. Konneta is the name under which the Bulandshar —Sunny Hours (illy will race, while the Siegfried—Polonaise colt will be known as Wapaugh. These youngsters, who are under R. S. Bagby’s charge, have made their appearance on tho Fllerslie tracks. Speedy Oration Filly.
The 1925 Avondalo All-Aged Stakes winner Oration is endowing his stock with speed and claimed another successful representative when his daughter Nob taro scored a surprise victory in , the Juvenile Handicap at To Aroha. Noitaro is a neat filly with a nice turn of speed, but she failed to repeat her first day’s form on Monday, when she was never prominent.
Stretto’s Next Engagement. The Herries Memorial Cup winner, Stretto. has taken no harm from her race last Saturday Stretto’s next engagement will bo in the Thompson Handicap at the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting'. She was not entered for the North Island Challenge Stakes, seven furlongs. A meeting between her and Courtcraft would have created great in terest. Bred In New Zealand.
Senegal, an eight-year-old gelding by Nigger Minstrel from the Autumnus mare Kinsem, received fatal injuries when he fell with Sergeant Major while running in the Cup Bracelet on tho second day of the Newnham Cup meeting (Tasmania) recently. Brought from Now Zealand a couple of years ago, lie was raced by j\lr 4< X_/. Ivossa. lie won lo races and JG969 in stakes in 91 starts in Tasmania.
Icing Improves, Icing has not boon a lucky filly, but her victory in the Earle Stakes proveu that she has become solid and she is now regarded as a, likely candidate for the Great Northern Oaks. After winning the Debutant Stakes at Wanganui, she developed a cough that prevented her showing her best for the rest of her two-year-old racing, but in her two further starts that season she was placed. She was burl during the running of the Wanganui Guineas and did not race again until the New Year, when she beat Surmount in
a sprint event at Marton. She has had 13 races for four wins and is now to slay in open company. Anion Injured. When running in the Farewell Handicap at To Aroha on Monday Anion, who finished second, o’ver-reached badly and cut his quarter. Name Registered. Tho Illumination—Rita’s Lass gelding, who is among the entries for the Bombay Handicap at the Pukckohe meeting, has had the name Lighter registered for him.
