AID FOR FLAX INDUSTRY.

PROPOSALS READY FOR CABINET WELLINGTON, March 4. A deputation from the Foxton Chamber of Commerce which waited on the Minister of Labour (Hon. H. T. Armstrong), yesterday, expressed the concern which is being felt in the Foxton district at the closing down of flaxmills, which will throw many men out of employment. The Minister said subsequently that the deputation had asked if something could be done in the direction of keeping tlie mills going. If that was not possible, it asked if suitable employment could be found for the men affected. 'There was no doubt, said the Minister, that employment could be found, but not adjacent to the men’s homes. The Department of Industries and Commerce had had the question under consideration for some time, and the Minister in charge of the department (Hon. D. G. Sullivan) had proposals ready for submission to Cabinet.
