BRIGHTER TONE. WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE. ACTIVE TRADING. Thee was a brighter tone on the Wellington stock and share market yesterday and active trading produced a substantial turnover. Government loans were well supported, sales of sin lots including £13,505 of 31 per cent 193852 at £lO3. More interest was shown in banks, which developed a firmer tendency. Commercial of Australia sold at Ids 8d and New Zealands advanced on sales to 43s 3d. Commercial of Sydney had buyers in at £2O 10s, holders asking 20s higher. E.S. and A’s firmed to £5 4s, without response. National of Australasia, £lO paid, improved to £l4 11s. Unions were wanted at jCB 18s, sellers asking Is higher. Gofdsbrougli Morts had business at 30s 6d and 30s 3d. Insurance issues were firmer. Huddart Parker ordinaries moved up to 45s 9d, and the prefeence to 28s 9d. Wellington Woollen preference were stronger at £5 7s. Tooths were firm at 55s 9d, sellers 56s 6d. Howard Smiths were a little firmer on business at 21s lOd. The Woolworths issues were firm and active. There was a marked firming in Woolworths Holdings, which sold to 15s lOd.
