AUCKLAND PROTEST. STATEMENT OBJECTED TO. Per Press Association- * AVELLINGTON. March 2. “The Auckland Centre was entirely responsible for the position that has arisen due to a badly worded telegram. If an apology is to be made it should come from the Auckland Centre for having misled us.” This statement was made by Air R AV Ale A 7 illy (president of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association) at a meeting of the council when a strongly worded letter of protest was received from the Auckland Centre takinrr exception to a public statement made l>v Air AlcVilly that it threatened to secede and demanding an apology. The letter contended that Mr AlcVilly had misinterpreted the telegram from the Auckland Centre relating to a request to reconsider the inclusion of A[iss Munro in the Empire games team, and that he had made a public statement- detrimental to the Auckland body. If the Auckland Centre cannot make its meaning clear then it had to take what was coming to it. said Air AlcA r illy. He would neither apologise for nor retract anything he had said. His reply had lieen that the council would not be bludgeoned into doing what it did not consider best in the general interests of sport. The telegram had been badly worded and if there was misinterpretation Auckland was responsible. 1 If an apology was due then it was due from Auckland for having misled the council. The general attitude of the Auckland Centra and the attempt to browbeat the council were shown by using political influence to ensure Afiss Munro being sent to the Empire Games. She went any way and did very well, said the secretary (Air AlcCormick) who was instructed to convey the feeling of the meeting which supported by Afr AlcA 7 illy.
