PIPE BAND CONTEST.

A meeting of the executive committee of the 1938 Dominion pipe band contest was held in the board room, A.M.P. Chambers, Broadway. There were present: Mr J. S. Jenkinson (chairman), Miss Kelly. Mrs McLean, Mrs Cooper, Miss Hughes, Messrs A. MacDonald, W. Allan, L. Cooper, A. K. Godbaz, J. Peterana, R. Emmett and V. J. Nicholson. It was decided to endeavour to ar.range for a suitable farewell at the A grade selections on Easter Saturday night for the contingent of returned soldiers leaving for Australia. The secretary reported, that up to the present time accommodation had been arranged for all bands so far competing. A sub-com-mittee comprising Messrs V. J. Nicholson, A. Macdonald, W. Allan and N. Cruden was set up to arrange for the official programme. It was decided that the street march sliould commence from the Opera House and proceed to the Showgrounds via the Square, Rangitikei Street, and Cuba Street. band would be preceded by a girl in Highland costume carrying a standard denoting the name of the band. Miss Kelly reported that it would be possible to arrange tor a display of cups, trophies, etc., to be competed for at the contest in Messrs Collinson and Cunninghame’s windows and it was resolved to ask the bands to forward photographs for the display. It was decided to ask the following gentlemen to act as judges:—Military judge, Captain GAN. McCaskill. Ser-geant-Majors A. Holmes, J. Ryan and t> * Fitzgerald; judge of paces, Mr I . A. Warren; judge of dress and instruments, Mr N. McKenzie-Forbes: marshal, Mr A. Macdonald; supervis?r > Mr J. S. Jenkinson; blackboard steward, .Mr R. Emmett. It was decided to ask Colonel McAuley, of W r anganui, to officiate at J'he massed bands church service to be field on Easter .Sunday morning.
