SURF CHAMPIONS.
AUSTRALIAN CONTEST. SYDNEY, Feb. 27. The inter-Dominion surf championships were held at Manly yesterday in a difficult surf, in which a seaward drag greatly handicapped competitors. One New Zealander said the drag and sweep back from the beach were terrible. He had never known anything like the pot-holes into which he stepped. New South Wales won the championship and also retained both special point score trophies competed for.New Zealand was third to Queenslands and Western Australia in the march past. Dalton was second to Boast (Queensland) in the senior belt championship. The surf teams championship was won by New South Wales, with Queensland second and New Zealand (Evans, Symes, Williams and Clark) third. In the surf championship, Stokes was fourth to' Walsh and Basingthwaigte (New South Wales), and Long (Queensland). All beltmen, except those of New South Wales and Queensland, failed to complete the course in the time limit in the rescue and resuscitation ■championship and were disqualified. The event was won by New South Wales. The New Zealand team (Hughes, Pelham, Stephens, and Williams) were fifth in the beach relay, won by New South Wales. Goldsmith was unplaced in the junior surf raoe, and Benson and Smith were unplaced in the surf race restricted to amateurs. Championship points were: New South Wales 36}, Queensland 31. Western Australia 20. New Zealand 19, Tasmania s}, South Australia 5.
