PRICES STEADY.

WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE. REDUCED TURNOVER. Business on the Wellington share market wax; less active yesterday after the “flurry” of Thursday. ' There was a reduced turnover o,f shares, but prices were generally steady. Interest in gilt-edged securities was more pronounced, and dealings were more active than of late. Sales included four parcels of Government loans and tlireo of local body debentures, all at firm rates. Banks were dull with an easy tone. New Zealand were done at 435, and National of Australasia, £lO paid, were' quoted a shade firmer at £l4 10s. Now South Wales cased to £3l 10s, ex dividend of 6s per share. Others wore quiet and unchanged. Trading in Woolworths was activo, prices of the Sydney issue easing a shade. Woolworths (N.Z.) were firm at 21s 6d. G. J. Coles had 'dealings at 82s and 82s 3d. Metals issues attracted little interest.

Improved prices wero realised for “marked” calves at a sale in Pukekohe when 116 entries were offered. Although the rough weather affected the appearance of the calves, bidding was brisk throughout the sale, prices ranging from £3 to £6 2s 6d. The 103 calves sold averaged approximately £4 2s in comparison with £3 19s lOd last year. The butterfat backing of the dams of the calves offered averaged 3291 b fat as against 3391 b last year. |
