Dr P. S. Foster, Christchurch, has been appointed a member of the Medical Council, states the Gazettte. Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, Prime Minister, yesterday presided at his first Cabinet meeting since ins recovery from his indisposition. His Honour Mr Justice Reed, who concluded a brief sitting of the Supreme Court at Palmerston North yesterday, returned to Wellington last night. Mr Felix Swinstead, a professor-' at the Royal Academy of Music, London, will visit New Zealand this year to conduct practical examinations on behalf of the Associated Board.

Mr D. McCowatt has.been appointed chief postmaster at Thames in place of Mr J. Y. Cameron, who retires at the end of the month. Mr McCowatt is an inspector in the Post and Telegraph Department. The induction ceremony of Rev. Canon D. J. Davies, B.Sc., the new vicar of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Wellington, took place last night. Mr Davies was formerly vicar of St. Peter’s Church, Terrace End. Congratulations on gaining the B.D. degree are extended in AH Saints’ Parish Magazine to Rev. V. C. Venimore, curate at Thornton Heath, London. Mr Venimore was at one time assistant-curate on the stag of All Saints.

Mr J. Hodgens, M.P., is to accompany the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, to Auckland on Sunday night, and after attending the opening of the Catholic Centenary celebrations will travel to Wellington on the Tuesday night.

Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, Prime Minister, yesterday presided at his first Cabinet meeting since his recovery from his indisposition. Mr Savage will pass through Palmerston North on Sunday night on the Limited express on his way north.

Mr T. W. Henderson, who has been stationed in Palmerston North for five years, has been notified by his company of his transfer to Wellington on promotion. Mr Henderson came to Palmerston North from Hamilton. He exp'ects to leave Palmerston North . in the second week in March. The friends of Mr J. B. Pascal, of Te Awe Awe Street, will regret to learn that ho is indisposed. Mr Pascal was unfortunately unable to be present at the civic luncheon yesterday tendered to visitors from the French cruiser Jeanne d’Arc, who are his compatriots, and an apology for his absence was read by the Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford). Tributes to the memory of the late Sir Frederick Truby King were paid at the meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board. The chairman (Mr D. J. McGowan) said that New Zealand had lost a great man in the death of Sir Truby. who had rendered great service, not only to the Dominion but to the world at large. Members of the board stood in silence as a mark of respect. Mr E. Anderson was elected chairman of the general committee of the Terrace End Development and Progressive Association at a general meeting last evening. The services of Mr T. W. Henderson, the retiring chairman, were eulogised by Messrs S. H. Snell and G. W. Mills, who paid a high tribute to Mr Henderson’s ability, tact and vigour in carrying out the duties of the office.

Representatives of all sections of the community were present yesterday at the funeral in Wellington of the late Mr T. Lindsay Buick, C.M.G., the well-known Wellington author, historian and journalist, whose death occurred on Tuesday. There was a large attendance at the funeral service at St. Peter’s Church, where Archdeacon Bullock officiated, assisted by Rev D. C. Bates. The last rites at the graveside at Karori were conducted by Archdeacon Bullock. Hon. P. Fraser represented the Government.
