OBITUARY.

MRS ANNE B. MOUNTFORD. The death of Mrs Anne Barry Mountfort, which occurred on Monday evening at her residence in East Street, Feilding, romeves one of Feilding's old identities. Mrs Mountfort, who was the wife of Mr Charles A. Mountfort, was 80 years of age and was born in Great Sutton, England. In 1876 Mrs Mountfort came to New Zea.knd with her parents,' brothers and sisters in the sailing ship Mataura, which arrived at Napier. Prior to. her marriage Mrs Mountfort was a teacher at a private ladies' school and her ijiarrLage to Mr Mountfort, a Government surveyor, took place in 1879 at the residence of the late Sir William Fox, Kakariki, for whom Mr Mountfort had worked on the West Coast Commission. For some years after her marriage Mrs Mountfort had accompanied her husband in his work at Okata, Opunake and Waitara, and in 1884 came to Feilding, where 6he had resided practically ever since. Mrs Mountfort was interested in Church and philanthropic work and opened and managed a Sunday school on the east side of the town for some years. Mr Mountfort's work as a surveyor necessitated his being away from home a great deal, and while he was

engaged at Nelson, Napier and ’Wanganui, Mrs Mountfort accompanied him. Mrs Mountfort was of a very artistic temperament and her work in oil paintings is well remembered by early Eeilding residents. Left to mourn her passing, besides her husband, is a grown up family of seven, who are as follow:—Mr A. W. Mountfort (Ohakune), Mr C. E. Mountfort (Hawera), Mr H. V. Mountfort (Auckland), Mrs H. Worsnop (Springhill, Hawke’s Bay), Miss A. E. Mountfort (Marton), Miss J. E. Mountfort (Eeilding), and Miss J. M. Mountfort (Te Kuiti). The sympathy of a wide circle of friends has been extended to the bereaved family. The funeral took place to-da v at the Feilding Cemetery following a short service at the residence.
