JUDGE’S WARNING.
CASE AT AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 4. Warned that if they continued following a life of crime they might find themselves declared habitual criminals, two men with previous records were sent-to prison bv Mr Justice Fair in the Supreme Court to-day after they had pleaded guilty to breaking and entering two Karangaliape Road shops early last month and stealing jewellery. Harry Samuel Johnson, a labourer,aged 33, who had admitted stealing 5s and a pair of shoes from another shop, was sentenced to two years; Aussie Harry Fielding, a . labourer, aged 21, was sentenced to 18 months. A country youth, Donald Meredith Harvey, aged 19, who pleaded guilty yesterday to knowingly receiving .stolen property, stood in the dock with these two men, but was admitted to two years’ probation, the Judge stating that lie bad got into bad company, although that did not mean the others had deliberately led him astray. A factor in his lapse was the novelty of city surroundings after he had lived all his life in the country. Harvey was ordered to make restitution of the property not recovered.
