SHOW AT WOODVILLE

FINE STOCK DISPLAY. ALLOCATION OF AYVARDS. The Woodville A. and P. Association’s 46th Annual Show was held on the racecourse grounds to-day. Though the weather had changed, and conditions were not favourable, the fixture proceeded very smoothly under the efficient direction of the president (Miff. C. Bolton) and secretary (Mr R. R. Johnston). There was an excellent display of stock, and the public attendance, under the conditions which prevailed, was good. The entries were on a level with those of former years, and a distinct advance was made in the standard of the stock exhibited. Features of the programme were dog trials, horse competitions, and chopping events. Close interest was taken in tho special classes arranged for arts and crafts exhibits by members of Women’s Institutes, the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, and Townswomen’s Guilds. Another attraction was the provincial championship competition for members of Boys’ and Gills’ Calf-rearing Clubs. There was keen competition in the dairy cattle classes for the Gaisford Memorial Cup, the points prize in this section. Judges of the various classes to-day were as follpvv : —Competitions: Horse events, Mr'B. McKay (YVaipukurau); dog trials, Mr D. J. Grant (Dannevirke). Horses r Hacks, Mr B. McKay; draughts, heavy harness horses and ponies, Mi- D. McKenzie (Masterton). Cattle: Jerseys, Mr C. Clemow (Stratford); Milking Shorthorns, Mr G. N. Bell (Karere); Friesians, Mr J. P. Liggins (Tokomaru); dairy cattle, Mr H. Wilson (Hastings). Sheep: Romneys, Mr M. A. McLeod (Feflding); South downs, Mr R. M. Perry (Masterton); fat sheep and crossbreds, Mr T. B. Caverhill (Masterton). Pigs: Mr A. Lassen (Ashhurst). Chopping events: Messrs H. Harvey, N. Bicknell and YV. Fulton (YVoodville). Highland events Mr R. Burns (Ballance).
