AVARS HIPS AT SINGAPORE. LONDON, Jan. 22. In reply to a Japanese remark that no Japanese warship had been invited to the opening of the naval base at Singapore, an authority said: “No foreign vessels were invited to this ‘family house-warming party.’ United States ships were invited to Sydney, not to Singapore. “The American Singapore visit is just a by-product, a kindly afterthought,” he added. “The Sydney celebrations came at a most convenient moment.”
