DUNEDIN WOOL SALE.
VERY KEEN COMPETITION. ADVANCE OF A HALFPENNY. Per Press Association. DUNHDIN, Dec. 21. Tho official report of the Dunedin wool sale submitted on behalf of the seven soiling agents is as follows: The Dunedin Stock Agents’ and Wool Brokers’ Association report that at the first sale of tfle season, held to-day, 24,000 bales were offered, of which approximately 95 per cent was sold. There was a full bench of buyers in attendance, representing the principal consuming countries of the world. Competition was exceptionally keen, the Continent and Bradford operating freely- The local mills were a strong factor in the market and bought most of the wauls suitable for their trade. Bradford were more prominent to-day than at any previous sale held in the Dominion to date. Canada was also in the market for super fine halfbred. The selection generally was a good one, especially Wools from Hie coastal, Tapanui, arid Roxborough districts. However, some back country clips showd an excess of dust and some early seed through tho prolonged dry weather. The halfbreds offering were slightly mare attractive than those offored at the December sale last year, and wore a shade lighter in condition and generally sound and,of good length. There was little difference in the condition of the Merinos as they were offered in the first sale last year. The catalogue for crossbreds contained a big percentage of hogget wools, which, through the season being particularly ,wet in the early part of the spring and also clue to lack of feed, were a little thin in the fibre and in some cases showed weakness. Ewe wool, although a little Tighter in condition, was fairly bulky and showed good colour. . As compared with provious sales held in the Dominion, and taking into consideration tho lighter condition of the wool, the market can be quoted firmer by one halfpenny. An extra super combing halfbred ewe and wether lot brought 22Jd which is the top price for the Dominion sales. RANGE OF PRICES.
