OTAGO WOOL SALE.
BIDDING VERY KEEN. HIGH PRICES RULING. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Dec. 21. The first wool sale opened to-day with very keen bidding, and passings were small. Bidding from the Continent was very strong. Bidders for fleece wools were well supported by Bradford, and local mills were again a strong factor, but Continental mills were prepared to pay high prices for superfine halfbreds. Japan was again an absentee, while American buying was barely noticeable. German and French buyers purchased a fair weight of skirting with a percentage of fleece. The record top price for New Zealand this season of 22id was obtained for five bales of super combing halfbred ewe and wether grown by Mr James McArthur, of Clyde, and purchased by a local mill. Compared witn previous sales halfbreds were Id to Id higher and crossbreds Jd to Id higher. One of the features of th° sale was the higher prices realised than anticipated for specialty lines showing the nigh-yielding properties, but some of these sold at 3sd to 4d per lb lower than last year.
