(From Our Oivn Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, Deo. 20. The second round of the Te Kawau tennis competition was played on Saturday, and again conditions for tennis wore ideal. Rongotqa scored a further success, boating Kopan'e by 13 sets and 89 games to 3 sets and 57 games. Rongotea players mentioned first:—Men’s singles: R. Scott beat E. Norris, D. Iloarc lost to L. Lancaster, 11. Churchill beat V. Nix, R. Morrison beat It. Thomson. Women’s singles: Miss G. Eades beat Miss M. Nix, Miss J. Eades beat Mias E. Roddy, Miss M. Sco_tt beat Mies E. Hill. Miss M. Fyfo beat Miss M. Wilton. Men’s doubles: Nix, Iloare and MissJ. Eades lost to Lancaster, Morrison and Churchill lost to .Nix and Thomson. Women’s doubles: Misses G. and J. Eades beat Misses Nix and Roddy, Misses Scott and Fyfo beat Misses Hill and Witton. Mixed doubles: Scott and Miss G. Eades beat Norris and Miss Nix, ;-Hdaro and J. Eades lost to Lancaster and Miss Roddy, Churchill and Miss Scott beat Nix. and Miss Ilill, Morrison and Miss Fyfe beat Thomson and Miss Witton. Playing at Kopanc, Rongotea beat Kopanc R by 10 .sets to 6.
A modest attempt at game preservation made by a local farmer, who has a large dam situated in a swampy piece of ground at the rear of his section, has been rewarded by native ducks, pukekos, and sandpipers nesting there and hatching out broods, while other varieties of birds are frequenting the spot. Although situated close to Rongotea, those who live, in the vicinity respect the owner’s wishes, and assist in maintainTng tho sanctuary free from disturbance.
