SINKING EAST
AMERICAN LINER. COLLISION WITH STEAMER. OFF TERSCHELLING ISLAND. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received December 22, 9.40 a.m. LONDON, Dec. 21. An S.O.S. message from the American passenger liner. City of Hamburg received to-day, stated that she was sinking fast ten miles east of Terschelling. She had been in a collision with an unknown Italian steamer. A lifeboat and a tug from Terschelling are proceeding to the scene. REPORTED SAFE. TWO HOLDS FLOODED. Received December 22, 12.35 p.m. AMSTERDAM, Dec. 21. After the collision in a log with the Italian steamer Confidenza east of Terschelling the City of Hamburg wirelessed that she was sinking. Rescue ships put out, but the City of Hanibury, with two holds flooded, was able to reach Cuxhaven under her own power escorted' by the Greek steamer Holkies. Terschelling is one of the chain of islands North of Holland. The a'rea is 45 square miles.
