AWAPUNI MEETING.
TRIO FROM MATAMATA. ARRIVAL NEXT WEEK. RONA BAY INCLUDED. (By “Spectator.”) It is intended to race the Matamata horses King Rey, Impaato, ancl Rona Bay at the Manawatu meeting at Christmas time. The three are working satisfactorily. Rona- Bay has thoroughly recovered from the slight mishap she Suffered in the Alison G‘up and looks all the better for her few days' let up. The team will not arrive at Palmerston North until about midway through next week. Grand City, another Matamata horse who scored at Woodville, is to race at New Plymouth. Will Be Improved. The Bigot, who had been allowed a comparatively easy time since his return from Riccarton, where he had some hard racing, was a bit on the big side • when raced at Woodville. He l was unlucky when he lost his position early in the running, but will be greatly benefited by the outing. He is engaged in the Manawatu Cup. Geira’s Career Ended. According to a Hastings report, the threff'yeag-old Geira has gone amiss and her racing career has come to a close. This daughter of Arausio and Iluiriarau gave some attractive performances as a two-year-old, and she also raced well early this season. His First Race. Renascor, a half-brother to Finnesko, had his first race in the Juvenile Handicap at Woodville, but the Awapuni youngster got away badly, and was not seen to advantage ([ Waipa Plate Aspirant. Owing to the fact that she is trained in the country, nothing has been heard of Highland Queen since she registered an oasy win in a novice event at the Rotorua Hunt meeting last month. The class opposed to her on that occasion was i not strong, still she won with the greatest of ease and left no doubt regarding her speed. This filly has been paid up for in the Waipa Plate at Te Awamutu to-morrow, and if she goes to the post she can be relied on to run prominently. She has recovered from an abscess in the mouth, and is likely to reproduce her Rotorua form nt any time. Rider For Fersen. As he is to be ridden by C. G. Goulsbro, Fersen will put up a little, overweight in tlie Te Awamutu Cup to-morrow, and is likely to carry about 7.6, or 41b more than liis handicap. Fersen has been working impressively and in the hands of a strong rider like Goulsbro he may take a lot of beating. No rider has been secured yet for Fersen in the Auckland Cup, but, in the event of Gay Rose not starting, R. E. Horne will probably have the mount. Middle Distance Prospect. Lucullus Lad, who was galloping fast in front all the way when he won the principal race on. the first day at Woodville, looks likely to develop into a good middle distance performer. He ran his first two furlongs in 25sec, first half-mile in 49 2-ssec, and first six furlongs in 1 min 15sec, coming home tho last half-mile ill 51seo. Cardsharper Turned Out. Cardsharper, whoso leg has filled, is to be turned out for three months. Bantry is still lame from the effects of being galloped on at Te Rapa and he may not be able to race during the holidays. Engaged at Waipa. Tho latest track efforts of Aero King indicate that this good-looking thrcc-year-old will not take long to reach form again. Ho has done most of his racing in Sydney during the last twelve months, where lie was a winner on several occasions, but has not had a race sinco he returned to Ellcralic. Aero King has been paid up for in the' Kihikilii Handicap at Waipa. Lagoon Recommissioned. Lagoon has been recommissioned and is working nicely on the Te Aroha tracks. Somewhat big in condition ae the result of her holiday, the Blusketoon mare will not be ready to race for several weeks. Distance Will Suit. In his only start at the Takapuna meeting ICena failed to leave tho barrier, consequently the race gave no guide concerning his future prospects.. Since then ICena has been shaping well in his work, and if he goes to tho post in the Hack Cup at the Waipa meeting to-morrow he should put up ■ a creditable showing. At the recent Waikato meeting ICena ran a close fourth in the Hack Cup, one mile. Sporting Song Recovers. Sporting Song appears to have recovered from the effects of his fall at Ellerslie during October, and the jumper will race during the holidays. Manawatu Cup Mount. Suneo will bo ridden in the Manawatu Cup by P. Burgess, who will also have tho mount on Lady Ina in the Fitzherbort Handicap. Woodville Meeting Taxation. Taxation payable to tho Government on the recent Woodville race meeting amounts to £2370 15s Id, being made up of £1099 3s 2d in totalisator tax, £l2Ol 17s in dividend duty, £lB 13s in stake duty, and £sl Is llcl in amusement tax.
