Mrs H. L. Cutfield, of Inglewood, is visiting Palmerston North. Members of the statf of the Palmerston North Girls’ High School, who will spend Christinas at their homes, are Miss J. McLeod (Hastings) and Miss Robinson (Christchurch). The friends of Mrs T. D. Lynch, of Linton, who recently entered a private hospital in Palmerston North, will be pleased to learn that she is making satisfactory progress after her operation. Leaving Palmerston North to-day to spend the holidays with her relatives at Timaru, is Miss G. Gillies, of the staff of the Palmerston North Girls’ High School. Visiting Wellington, where she will spend the Christmas and New Year holidays, is Miss M. Prideaux-Prid-liam of the staff of the Palmerston North Girls’ High School. Miss L. Brown and Miss Mcßae, of the staff of the Palmerston North Girls’ High School, are leaving on a holiday trip to Sydney. Loss of women teachers through marriage had severely taxed the efforts of the Education Department to increase the supply of teachers and reduce the numbers in classes, 6aid the Minister of Education (Hon. P. Fraser.), addressing the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute yesterday. During the slump young men had not been so .able to marry, .but since -good times returned many had been able to afford to do so, and.in consequence a loss of young women trainees had been noticed in not only- the teaching profession, but among nurses and dental nurses. “But even if from time to time thev counteract our efforts, we a.re glad to see the marriages taking place,” said Mr Eraser.
