GALLOPS AT AWAPUNI. . FAST FIVE FURLONGS. FLORENCE MILLS BRILLIANT. (By ‘‘Spectator.”) A feature oi the _ training operations at the Awapuni course this morning was a brilliant, five furlongs gallop by Florence Mills who, though not hard pressed, cut out the distance in 1.2, one of the best gallops seen over the "distance for some time on the track, though it was .from a flying start. . -. T . With wonderful action, this speedy Nigger Minstrel filly covered the ■ first three furlongs in 36 3-ssec, and the half-mile in 50sec. She could have bettered this time. H. Johnstone was in the saddle, and the flags were only 20ft. out, thfe track being fast. Florence Mills will probably go to Ellerslie on Monday night with Quadroon ai/fcl Wagner, other members of L. T. Wilson’s team, and they promise to be a very useful trio. Though not fully extended, Final covered three furlongs in 39sec. Silver River (Chaplin), who is in excellent condition at present, was. responsible for a good effort in just beating Great Hope (Howe) at the end of five furlongs run in 1.4. The first two furlongs occupied 25 3-ssec, and the first three 38 3-ssec. Raratonga, looking very well, _ was let off with light exercise on the inside track. Going easily, Surmount (Tattersall) ran six furlongs in 1.20 3-5, the first three taking 40sec and the half-mile 53 4-ssec. Oratory (Broughton) finished with something in reserve to have the measure of Laughing Lass (Tattersall) at the end of a smart five furlongs run in T. 3, the half-mile taking 51’sec. The Railway Handicap candidate is in great order, and has been galloping in good style. She will probably go north on Monday night. Noisy Night (Chaplin) got to the end of six furlongs in 1.19 2-5. Dunmanway (Little) and Segra (Broughton) cleared out '* from the Centrepiece gelding (C. Thomson) in a three-furlong flutter, to cover the distance in 39 l-ssec. Orient Dawn (Rae) took 1.9 4-5 for five furlongs, but was allowed to bowl along at his own pace. The Buzzer (Broughton) finished in front of The Bigot (Tattersall) over a good mile run in 1.46£. The first six furlongs took 1.20 1-5. Prediction (Chaplin) dashed over three furlongs in 38 4-ssec. The Black Ronald—Vuetta filly and the Pink Coat—Geisha colt were sprinted down the straight. Alby (Chaplin) finished just in front of Round Score (Tattersall) at the end of a mile run in 1.46£. Round Score, who hae beenv galloping treely of late, went exceptionally well Moving nicely, Barcelona (C. Thomson) ran half a mile in 54 l-ssec, his time for the last three furlongs being 38 2-ssec. Beau lack (Rao) _ was going at threequarter pace to do seven furlongs in 1.42. CATALOGUE’S PROGRAMME. The Crooner (Little) was in front of Catalogue (Broughton) in covering five furlongs in 1.4, the last half-mile taking 50 4 r ssec, Both went very well, and The Crooner is in nice order for his Ellerslie engagements. There is a possibility that Catalogue, who has been awarded the top weight of 9,0 in the Manawatu Cup, may yet go north to run in mile races Merry Ruler (Broughton) covered six furlongs in 1.214. A' beautiful-looking colt seen exercising on the inside this morning Was the Thracian—Pythia youngster, who is receiving his early education Taillight (J. Leach) and Wildflower (Tattersall) covered the last, six furlongs of a mile on "the -plough in -1.184. ■ Taumau (Little) just .shaded Conveyer (Broughton) over a mile run in 1.47. Taumau appears to be well forward in condition. ■ Lady Ina (Broughton) ran half a mile in 53seo at a restricted pace, the last three furlongs taking 39sec. " ' . ' Old Surrey (Little) did a mile in 1.46 2-5, the last six furlongs taking 1.23 3-5, but he was stopping at the finish. Quadroon (H. Johnstone) finished very solidly just in front of Wagner (Broughton) over a good six furlongs run in 1.16 4-5. They cut out the last half-mile in l 514 sec, and both were going very well. Hunting Loro (Little), accompanied by the Iliad—Merit filly, ran six furlongs in 1 21, the last five taking T.B. l-ssec. Skyful (Leach) and Mon Ace (Little) did six furlongs on the plough in 1.21 2-5. The Gascony—Lady Flier filly, who is a nice mover and has been showing speed in her early essays, scampered over three furlongs in 40sec. Rolling Home, J. J. Waller’s latest charge, was worked on the inner track. The Roley gelding may have his first start in the Ladies’ Bracelet at Marton.
