EXPENDITURE ON ARMAMENTS. WORLD FIGURES FOR 1937. GENEVA, Dec. 14. Expenditure on armaments throughout the world in 1937 reached the record total of £2,400,000,000, according to the League of Nations Armaments Year Book. The previous record, in 1936, was £2,016,000,060. A total of 8,500,000 men are permanently under arms, compared with 6,000,000 in 1913. Further, budgets do not include the huge expenditure on semi-military organisations.
