LEGISLATION EXPLAINED

WELLINGTON, Deo. 13. An official explanation of the Sovereign’s Birthday Observance Act passed by Parliament last week was issued yesterday. It was stated that the real effect of the Act is to pruvvte tnac when in any Act, award, or industrial agreement in force on June 9, 1937, reference is made to the Sovereign’s birthday, it shall have no application in respect of the current year. Thereafter, the holiday will be generally observed on the first Monday in June.
