OROUA DOWNS

(From Our Own Correspondent.) OROUA DOWNS, Dec. 11. The Oroua Downs Hall was filled to capacity, the occasion being the annual Women’s Institute Christmas party for the children. The evening opened with the Grand March and many and varied were the fancy costumes worn by the children. Next followed a short concert programme by the children interspersed with folk dancing, which was much enjoyed by the elders present. As scon as the items were concluded the children wero treated to a sit-down supper,- the members of tho Institute attending the tables. When the kiddies had finished supper Mrs Dench (president of the Institute) introduced “Sarah” and “Susie,” who had arrived lather late to participate in the .early part of the evening, but created considerable entertainment for both young and old by their antics. The next-item was the arrival of Father Christmas/ who came right into tho hall in a email car loaded with gifts. When the distribution was over- Father Christmas left and supper was arranged for the adults tat the conclusion of which dancing for the adults was carried on until a late hour, the music being supplied by Messrs J. Hall and L. Matter. Tho rain which has fallen throughout tho district during the past few days, although more than welcome, has held up several farmers from getting their hay
