(From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA. Deo. 11. A welcome homo social for Mr and Mrs H. J. Crawford following their recent marriage at Auckland was hold on Friday evening. A very enjoyable time was spent in playing parlour games and competition#, and vocal items. A competition was won by Miss McConachy. Items were given by Miss E. Berkahn and Mr 11. N. MeEwan, the aecompanisto being Mies Wilton. Mr W. Hurst road apologies for absence from Rev. R. E. Fordyce, Mr H. N. Rowe, and Mr D. Johnston. On behalf of tho Palmerston North Presbyterian Outfields Mission Mr H. Wilton (Rangiotu) said that, although Mr Crawford had been in tho district for loss than twelve months as their minister, ho was highly esteemed and all joined in congratulations and extendod a welcome to tho happy couple. Mr D. Rowlands (Tiakatahuna), Mr H. W. Cartor (Glen Oroua) and Mr L.‘ H. Yarrall (op behalf of the Methodist Church) also offered brief congratulatory remarks. Mr Hurst spoke of the pleasant duty he was called on to perform in asking their guests to accept a handsome chiming clock accompanied by a cheque from tho churches in the .district linked with the mission. Mr Crawford voiced the pleasure he felt on behalf of himself and his wife for the gifts and a'6o for the help and encouragement he had received. Mrs Crawford briefly expressed her thanks for tho hospitality received and the kindness and generosity with which she had been welcomed to her now home' at Rongotca. Haymaking has focussed the attention of farmers during this past week, and all reports go to confirm the statements made previously that tho early cut crops would be very light, though of splendid quality. There is a predominance of ryegrass in tho paddocks owing to tho dry season. Clover is also very abundant, and the white blossoms, with their delightful fragrance, carpet tho ground, but tho growth is too short as yet to add weight to the hay crop, which is on the average about half what it was last year on similar areas. ... .

Tho Rongotca School grounds now present a more attractive appearance than at any time since tho now building was occupied. Tho borders are bright with annuals, while dahlias, perennials and shrubs will offer their attractions later in the, season. In order to further develop in tho scholars a love of open-air horticulture, the headmaster (Mr W. A. Churchill) has established a nursery bed, where specimens of native plants and trees, clearly labelled, arq being grown. In this work the lady assistants, Misses Richards and Thompson, take a most active part. The first round of the inter-club tennis competition began on Saturday, when Carnarvon and Rongotca Clubs mot, the A teams at Carnarvon and tho B at Rongotea. Tho local club were 'successful in both competitions, winning tho A grade by 13 sets and 87 games to 3 sets and 57 games, and tho B grade by 9 sets and 77 games to 7 sets and 66 games.
