FIRE BOARD

QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the Palmerston North Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon, Mr A. E. Mansford presiding. There were present Messrs L. H. * Collinson, W. B. Cameron, V. H. Edgar and L. H. Hutton. It' was reported that an agreement had been entered into with the Kairanga. County Council whereby service in case of fire could be rendered to certain institutions outside the board’s area, including Massey College, the Awapuni Home, Milson railway settlement and the municipal abattoirs. The approval of the Minister of Internal Affairs, however, was necessary. The superintendent (Mr P. A. Milverton) reported that the change over from screw couplings to instantaneous would be completed within the present month. The motors, plant and equipment were in good order. One of the members had been on sick leave: otherwise all members were in good health and carrying out their duties satisfactorily. The surfacing of the yard with tar and sand had been completed, thus finishing all major maintenance for tlio year. At the conclusion of business, the chairman took the opportunity of wishing members and the staff the compliments of the season—a wish which was reciprocated by Mi- Collinson, on behalf of board members, and Mr Milverton, on behalf of the staff.
