A RECIPE.
SPICED PRUNES. Take lib large prunes, 1 cupful castor sugar, i teaspoonful all-spice berTies, i cupful vinegar, 3 inches cinnamon stick, 1 quart water, % teaspoonful whole cloves, 1 6altsspoonful salt. Wash the prunes. Place in a basin, add the water. Soak for twelve, hours. Drain off the water. Place in a saucepan. Add the sugar. When dissolved, bring to the boil. Add the spices tied in a muslin bag, salt and prunes. Simmer for twenty minutes. Add the vinegar. Simmer till the syrup is fairly thick. Remove the bag, put in jars. Serve with cold roast duck, goose, mutton,, or pork.
