SURPLUS PROFITS.
ART UNION ALLOCATIONS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Dec. 9. A special Christmas allocation of art union surplus profits is being made by the Government to a number of institutions in the Dominion doing philanthropic work. Bodies whose work will benefit in the distribution of the funds, which total £9400, include the New Zealand Crippled Children’s Society, £1000; and the Palmerston North Hospital Auxiliary, £SO. -- “There can be no question about the worthiness of the work among the people of the bodies allotted grants,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. W. E. Parry). With the knowledge that the money will be well spent, the Government is glad to have these surplus funds on hand to present to the institutions.” The Minister mentioned that the special allocation now made was quite apart from the usual £SOOO paid from the profit of each £SOOO alluvial gold art union conducted in New Zealand, to Mayoral relief funds.
