GRANTS RECEIVED.
MASSEY COLLEGE COUNCIL. A meeting of the Council of Massey College was held yesterday, Professor T. A. Hunter presiding. There were present Messrs P. Levi, Norton Francis, R. A. Candy, A. Morton, H. B. Stuckey, T. U. AVells, A. E. Mansford and L. H. Collinson. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs G. Grey Campbell and 0. Monrad. Grants of £IOO each were received from the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board and the New Zealand Romney Sheep Breeders’ Association towards the cost of experimental .work on sterility in sheep. It was decided to write to these bodies thanking them for their continued interest in the work. A grant of £IOO was received through the AVellington District Pig Council towards work being carried out in connection with the inheritance of length' in baconer pigs. The estimates for 1938 were considered and adopted. With reference to the recent legislation bringing the two agricultural colleges under one council as the New Zealand University School of Agriculture, the meeting appointed four members as its representatives on the main council. It was reported by the principal that three former students, who had completed the course for B. Agr.Sc. this year, had been appointed to the Government service—Mr K. Cotter to the Agronomy Division of the Plant Research Bureau, and Messrs J. VVishart and R. E. Rose to the Grasslands Division of the Plant Research, Bureau. Over 40 applications were received for the position of matron of the hostel and these were reduced to six, a special committee being set up to make the final appointment.
