Mr Tt. J. Estall, conductor of the AVoolston Band, -Christchurch,, has been appointed adjudicator at the 150th anniversary brass band contest, to be held at Newcastle, New South Wales, in February.
Captain It. W. Wrightson, M.C., a farmer, of Ohingaiti, lias, at the request of a group of'electors, consented to his nomination as a candidate for the Bangitikci seat in the interests of the New Zealand National Party. Mr E. L. Barnes, of Palmerston North, who has been in a private hospital at Christchurch since the New Zealand Cup meeting, is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Arrangements are being made for him to return home by Christmas, if possible, as an ambulance case by aeroplane.
Mr G. V. Wild, an inspector in the manual and technical branch of the Education Department, was a visitor to Palmerston North yesterday, when he attended the judging of the championships of the Manawatu and Oroua Division of the Boys’ and Girls’ Ca.lf Club movement. Mr W. J. Boden, senior inspector of the Wanganui Education Board, was also present. Very Rev. J. B. Brocklelmrst, Dean of Waiapu, has been appointed by the Primate, Archbishop Averill, to he his commissary during the continuance of the vacancy in the diocese caused by the death of Bishop H. AV. Williams. Deal) Brocklelmrst will manage the affairs of the diocese of Waiapu pending the appointment of a successor to Bishop Williams. On AVednesday evening, the staff of the Plaza Theatre, AVanganui, gathered at the close of tho session to farewell the manager, Mr C. M. McNaught, who has been transferred to Palmerston North to manage the State Theatre, and to extend a welcome to Mr Roger Bailout, his successor. Mr G. Lett, on behalf of the staff, presented Mr MeNaught with a suitablyinscribed travelling pase. Archbishop Averill, Primate of New Zealand, accompanied by Archdeacon Simpkins, spent some hours in Palmerston North yesterday when returning to Auckland from Hawke’s Bay. They visited the All Saints’ Children’s Home in Pascal Street in company with Canon G. Y. AVoodward and Mr H. G. Bagnall, and were entertained at afternoon tea by the matron (Airs E. Bain). They expressed themselves as being very pleased with its appointments and management. One of the most vital figures in Wellington’s bowling and musical life was removed by the departure to-day l’oi Auckland of Air Edwin J. Hill, a member of the firm of Charles Hill and Sons. Citizens to the number of about 60, consisting for the most part of bowlers and memhers of the AVellington Savage Club, gathered last night to bid farewell to Air Hill. Several speakers eulogised the many fine qualities of Air Hill, and on behalf of the Savage Club Air Atarcus Alarks presented him with a rug.
