WOODVILLE, Dec. 9. Mr W. Galbraith, of Woodville, is recuperating at “Mcrivale,” Paekakariki, after a recent illness. * In the final matches of the first round of the senior cricket competitions Old Boys beat Danncvirke. Woodville wore all out for 160 runs in their first innings against Phoenix-, who had 212 to their credit. Wbodvillc’s second strike was worth 215, to which Phoenix replied with an aggregate of 103 for 6 wickets. Horne) presided over the quarterly meeting of the Woodvillc Fire Board, when the superintendent (Mr H. N. McNeil) reoortod that six fire drills had been held. The brigade had received four smoko masks. Tho chairman of the Amalgamation Schemes Committee (Hon. W. E. Barnard) wrote asking for any suggestion with reference to the Local Body Amalgamation Bill.—Mr Norrie stated that if the board had any suggestions they should be sent. There was no compulsion, but advice should bo given of any objections. The death occurred on Tuesday afternoon, at his home, of Mr James Welsh Duke, aged 71. of Woodville. The late gentleman bad been indisposed for almost two .and a half years, but had borne his sickness with romarkablc fortitude. He was a very keen bowler and was a consistent! participant in the games held by the Woodville Club. The iato. Mr Duke will be missed by a wide criclc of friends.
