EDUCATION BOARD.

STAFF CHANGES. The monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board was held on Wednesday, Mr E. F. Hemingway presiding. There were also present Colonel J. H. Whyte and Messrs M. H. Oram, A. S. Coleman, I. W. Mudford, J. W. Batchelar, P. Munro, R. Dukeson and W. T. Benefield. In the course of hte report the chairman stated: “On Friday, November 19, while en route to Palmerston North to interview applicants for admission to the Training College, the senior inspector and I called at the Marton District High School, where we inspected a display of arts and crafts work. I was more than pleased with the very good work which had been done. It reflects great credit on the teachers concerned. “The third bus for the Rnta-Silver-hope-Hunterville consolidation scheme has been delivered and was put into service on November 24, to convey secondary children into Marton.” The following appointments and resignations were confirmed Teachers leaving board’s service: Miss E. N. Sampson, head teacher, Keith Street Infants’ School; Miss W. Bailey,head teacher, Te Arakura; Mr J. A. Elder, sole teacher, Greatford; Miss M. S. Riley, assistant, Horopito; Miss L. V. Fromm, assistant, Kakahi. Teachers appointed to other jiositions in the board’s service: Miss E. M. Bland, assistant, Hokowhitu, to College Street. The board decided to forward letters of appreciation to Misses Sampson and Bailey, who are concluding long terms of employment. The secretary reported that, consequent upon the 4, abolition of the proficiency examination, new regulations had been, issued providing for the is'sue of primary school certificates to every pupil who lias completed a course for Form 11. 1 ' A circular was received from the Education Department recommending that teachers should temporarily suspend the ordinary time-tables during February and that a modified curriculum should be adopted, the aim being fitter pupils both mentally and physically on March 1. The chairman saul he considered the idea was a good one, an opinion which was endorsed by the senior inspector of schools (Mr W. F- Boden). ' The Education Department notified that the boarding allowance had been raised to 7s 6d, from ss, aiveek as from the beginning of the third term. Palmerston North Bible class members were granted tlie use of the Mangaweka School buildings for an Easter camp, on the usual conditions.
