FOXTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Dec. 7.
Members of the Main Highways Board visited Foxton yesterday afternoon in the course of their tour of the various main highways. They conferred with the Mayor (Mr M. F,. Perreau) and clerk (Mr W. Trueman) in the Council Chambers. Two cars came into collision in somewhat unusual circumstances on No. 2 Line, Foxton. Mr N, E. Hughes, a resident of No. 2 Line, was returning home in an open two-seater car and he had just negotiated a slight dip in the road in the vicinity of Mr N. Easton’s farm and was driving up the incline when he noticed a car approaching. Ho applied the brakes and was in tile act of geeting out on the driver’s side when the other car struck his vehicle. The road is particularly narrow in the vicinity and covered with loose metal. The driver of the other car was Mr 11. R. Neal, also of No. 2 Line, a neighbour of Mr Hughes. There was no possible room for the cars to pass at die spot and Mr Neal’s car slid down and crashed into Mr Hughes’s car. Both were considerably damaged, being locekd together. Mr Hughes; who was almost out of his car when the accident occurred, was caught by flying glass from his windscreen and received a gash in his right arm which was also fractured at the elbow. lie received medical attention in Foxton and was then admitted to a private liotpital in Palmerston North. Mr Neal escaped injury.
