HOSPITAL AUXILIARY.
PARTY AT AWAPUNI HOME. An enjoyable concert and tea party took place yesterday afternoon when the inmates of the Awapuni Home were entertained by the members of the Palmerston North Hospital Women’s Auxiliary. The visitors, who were received in the sitting-room, which was brightly decorated with red geraniums, were welcomed by the matron (Miss Wright). Several songs were rendered by Mrs. W. Bigham, who also led community
singing. Colleen Benefield, Jean Holdsworth and Joy Lane gave pleasure with their bright Highland and tap dances and Irish jigs. Two recitations in character by Livingstone were much appreciated. On the centre table at afternoon tea, which was served in the men’s diningroom, was a largo Christmas • cake which had been made by Mrs J. Barsanti. This was cut by Mrs Eadie, aged 98, who is the oldest person in the Home. Mrs M. Aitchison, president of the auxiliary, said how happy members were to visit the home, and wished all present a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Mr H. J. Canton
briefly replied on behalf of the inmates.
Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames A. E. Mansford, W. ;M.i Huntington, F; J. Nathan, S. J. Pafkes, T. Saunders, M. Ashworth and Miss Paisley. '
Adding to the party atmosphere was the assortment of good things which were distributed by the members, who also asked Miss Wright to accept a cheque for £5 5s with which to. purchase little extras at Christmas time.
A bright party concluded with the singing by the members of “They are Jolly Good Fellow's.”
