RURAL RAKINGS. Full athanfage of the dry 6pcll is being taken bv 'Waikato fanners to harvest hay and ensilage, hut there is a lack of competent harvesting labour. The quality of the hay is poorer than in previous years. Owing to retarded pasture growth, as a result of the dry period a few weeks ago, grass in paddocks was shut up for- ensilage, and hay was forced into the seeding stage, with the result that much of the nutritive value was lost. At a meeting of the Auckland Jersey Club it was decided to forward the following resolution to the Minister of Agriculture, the New Zealand Jersey Association and the Auckland A. and F. Association: “The Auckland Jersey Club strongly objects to any alterations being made regarding the present regulations for the importation of cattle, and that, in order to obtain a true opinion of those having so much at _ stake, a referendum of all farmers owning cattle be taken.”
