(From Our Own Correspondent.) . , , FOXTON. Dee. 3. A branch of the Labour Partv has been formed at ATarotiri. Mr E. G. Martin has been elected chairman, Mr B. Cummerfield vice-chairman and Mr- R. Flotchor secretary. The membership is stated to bo in the vicinity of one hundred. Rev. R. Grice. Vicar of the local Methodist Church, commences his annual leave on Monday next, and will spend a fortnight's holiday at Warkworth. Mrs Wylie, of New Plymouth, is the guest of Mrs E. M. Wyllie, of Thynne Street. A few months ago a newly formed Bowling Club at Pleasant Point, South Canterbury, inaugurated a novel competition for tho. raising of funds to meet expenses in connection with the laying down of a new green. Mr D. Christie, a member of the Foxton Club. was successful in winning the competition. In addition to a set of bowls awarded to the winner, a silver cup is also to be presented to the i club of which the winner is a member. I At the bi-monthly meeting of the Foxton Plunket Society, Mrs W. Trueman presided. The nurse’s .report for Septcmher and October was read and adopted, i Miss L. Cook, secretary of the Marton j branch, wrote accepting an invitation to: visit Foxton. The relatives of the late Mrs ! S. Easton acknowledged a letter of sym- I pathy and a wreath. A report was also | read from Mrs Aitchison on the provincial ' conference. Prior to the meeting, members and past members of the committee assembled to welcome Miss L. Cook, secretary of tho Marton branch, who was accompanied by her sister, Miss Cook, Mrs Sladdcn (president of the Marton branch) and Mrs Whitford, who placed her car at their disposal. Miss Cook came at the invitation of the Foxton branch to discuss the remits passed at the bi-annual conference held recently in Wellington. Miss Cook spoko fluently and m6st interestingly on Plunket affairs and remits, and her talk was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. The visitors were welcomed by Mrs Trueman who presented Miss Cook with a bunch of roses, given by Mrs F. Procter, who as a life member was also present. Afternoon tea was served by the committee members, after which Mrs Barron thanked Miss Cook for her interesting address, and the other members of the party ' for being present. A social evening was held on Tuesday to celebrate the third birthday of tho Te . Awahou Sea Scouts. Parents. Rovers, Cubs and, members of tho committee were present in good • numbers and prior to the : commencement of the evening a welcome was extended by Mr J. Macdonald. Amus- ' ing games and competitions were induced iii.. Mr Macdonald presented tho trophies awarded to the two most improved Scouts—P. Brady and W. Hamer. Mr 1 Masdonald presented a bronze cup for competition between tho two “watches” 1 to be won on points gained and awarded < every throe months. The starboard Watch 1 is the present holder. Coxswain Robert r Shorthouse and Darcy Ebbctt were M.C.’s. ( A handsome birthday cake was a feature 1 of the party, the ingredients of which .were 1 contributed by tho Scouts, the baking I and icing being done by Mrs Ebbott. f
