RONGOTEA

(From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA. Dec. 6. The annual combined circuit Methodist garden party, held on Saturday in the beautiful grounds of Mr Warren Hunt's residence, provided a welcome respite from daily business. There was a splendid attendance, the day was fine and warm, and the financial return of £3l very satisfactory. The tennis court was well patronised, and the less active found plenty' of opportunity for amusement. The pleasure of the afternoon was considerably enhanced by presentations to two officials of the Church who have rendered years of faithful service. Rev. R. E. Fordyce referred to the work done by Mr Henry Masters, of Sanson, as circuit steward during the past 17 years and, in association with • Mrs Masters, asked him to accept a silver entree dish as a token of esteem from all the members. Mr Masters briefly expressed thanks.. Mr and Mrs E. ’C. Print, of Taikoroa, were also the recipients of a tea -wagon and tray cloth as a mark of appreciation from the congregations for Mr Print’s untiring efforts for many years. Afternoon lea was then served on the lawn; this was in charge of Mrs M. E. Smith, assisted by members, of the Ladies’ Guild. A stall, in the care of Mesdames H. Hamlin, J. Hill and J. Sanson, was well patronised. Events were won as follow: Nail driving, Mrs H. Masters; quoits, ladies, Mrs T. Walsh; men, Mr J. Huddleston; cork spearing, Mrs H. Vofs; thread-thc-necdle race, Mr M. Huddleston. -Mr Fordyce thanked Mr Hunt .and all the workers for the pleasurable time they had afforded all who had attended. Mr W. J. Davis, who recently., had the misfortune to drop a heavy plough-share on his right foot, inflicting a serious injury, has since received a wound in his right forearm, a piece of wood about two inches long becoming embedded in the flesh, requiring -surgical attention.
