At tho monthly, meeting of the Glen Oroua Labour Party branch visitors were present, from Feilding, Bunnylhorpe, Awahuri, Ashhurst and Sanson. Alter the usual business, which included a report by the local delegate (Mr A. T. Bailey; on tho Labour Representation Committee meeting held at Feilding, a spirited discussion took place on the 40-hour week and on collective fanning. Later Mr W. Oliver, president of the new Manawatu Labour Representation Committee, addressed the meeting on ■ the “Building of the Labour Party and Labour Politics in tho Past,” while Mr E. Bowator, secretary of the Labour Representation Committee, also spoke, stressing the necessity for solidarity in connection with the work of the party. Thanks were accorded tho speakers. Supper was served by the ladies.
Yesterday afternoon a return cricket match was played at Rongotea between the Glen Oroua and Rongotea School boys. Rongotea batted first, but, mainly through the accurate bowling of I. Parlane and C. Webb, the team were out for the small score cf 7 runs. Glen Oroua replied with 46 runs, the principal scorers being T. Hunt (10) and J. Webb 6, while M. Beattie also played a careful innings. Rongotea fared slightly bettor in their second attempt, but Parlane, Webb and T. Hunt proved very difficult to play, the side being dismissed for 15, thus leaving Glen Oroua the victors by an innings and 24 runs. Bowling for Rongotea, L. Rowe took 2 wickets tor 18 runs, F. Wood 6 for 10 and W. Mossop 1 for 8. For Glen Oroua, I. Parlane bowled extretmoly well to take 7 wickets for 1 run in the first innings and 6 for 4 in the second, while C. Webb took 2 for 5' and 2 for 7.' T. Hunt (2 for 4) and N. Ihle (1 for 0), took the remaining wickets. Messrs W. A. Churchill and S. G. Parlano, _ tho head teachers of tho schools, umpired the match. The 'Glen Oroua Itoys are to play a return match against tho Taikorea boys next Friday afternoon. , Mr J. "Wheeler, Mangawhata, who recently .was suddenly taken ill, has undergone an operation in a hospital in Palmerston North. Residents of tho district will be pleased to know that Mr Wheeler is progressing favourably. Mrs H. Skeet is visiting Mastcrlon.
