FORTS STILL HELD
Received December 4, 10 a.m. SHANGHAI, Dec. 3. The counter-attack has checked a rapid Japanese advance on Nanking. The Chinese forces cut the Japanese line behind. Kwangteh and drove back the Japanese column. General Wong Chao Yuan still holds the Kiangyin forts with 20,000 men. A message from Tokio states that Japanese ’planes, without resistance, bombed Nanking and Canton.
