(From Our Own Correspondent.) .. _ SHANNON, Dec. 1. Levin are leading in the Hall cricket championship with 16 points. Shannon have 15, Weraroa 13, Paraparaumu 11, Te Horo 11. Otaki 0. Last Saturday the local eleven were defeated by Te Ploro. Next Saturday at Levin, Shannon will be represented in the first game for the triangular bowling shield by Semple, Pope, R. Hook, C. Hook fskip) and Sheddon, Clayton, Hemmingsen, F. Whibley (skip). At the Borough Council meeting on Tuesday evening the trustees of the National Art Gallery and Dominion Museum invited the council to be represented at a meeting on December 16 when the trustees will give some idea of the work that is being done by the institutions under their control. The New Zealand Standard Institute forwarded a report of a conference of representatives of local authorities and interested Government departments when the question of proceeding with the standardisation of local body by-laws was agreod to. The council gave endorsement of this general approval. The town clerk was instructed to invito representatives of the Shannon A.A. and C. Club to meet the council next meeting to discuss matters in connection with improvements to the cycling track. It was resolved that the oiler received to cut grass with a horse mower on streets at 6s por hour bo accepted. Persons desiring the grass to have same on application to the town clerk. The action of the chairman of road committee in arranging for the hire of the county grader was approved. The foreman was instructed to have the grass'cleared off footpaths. Crs Hyde and Curran, junr., journeyed to Wellington on Wednesday to discuss matters with the Government Housing Department regarding the local purchase of land.
Mrs A. L. Edwards is an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital. In the Manawatu Centre tennis championship game played between Foxton and | Shannon on the local tennis courts on Saturday Foxton were the winners by 11 sets to 5.
