PAHIATUA.
PAHIATUA, Dee. 3. Mrs J. G. Hunter, of Auckland., and latterly of Palmerston North, is visiting her brother, Mr J. A. Gibson, of Ballancc. Affor attending an executive meeting of the Now Zealand Federation of Women’s Institutes, at Wellington,. Mrs H. Paterson has returned to Pahiatua. The following arc the vital statistics for Pahiatua for November, those for the same period of 1936 being in parentheses: —Deaths, 3 (5); births, 9 (12); marriages, 5 (2). Mr J. H. Brenmer presided over. a meeting of the executive of the Pahiatua branch of the Farmers’ Union, when, a motion of condolence was passed with the relatives of the late Mrs S. , Boltqn. Mr Bremner commended the Progressive Association’s efforts to raise funds for the purchase of a,town clock. An informal meeting followed, when Mr A. P. O Shea, secretary of the New Zealand. Farmers Union was present by invitation. Mr O’Shea agreed with Mr Bremner’s contention that New Zealand had all its eggs in one basket in so far. as the labour question was concerned, and referred to the difficulty in obtaining farm labour. Ho pointed out that they could not expect a man on the wharf earning £460 per year to go farm labouring.
