AIR BASE.
PROPOSAL REJECTED. ' LONDON, Nov. 24. Chiefly on the grounds that it should be national expenditure and not a part of the ratepayers’ responsibility, the Portsmouth City Council rejected the Langston air base proposal. The Bill, therefore, lapses, though it is suggested that the. Government might carry out the scheme alone.
A British official wireless message dated January 4 stated that the Portsmouth Docks and Airport Committee had passed a new scheme for the establishment of an Empire 'air base at Langston harbour, for presentation to tile city council. The estimated cost was £750,000, toward which there would be a grant "of about £160,000 from the Government. .
