METHODIST SYNOD.
CONCLUSION OF BUSINESS
The concluding session of the Hawke’s Bay-Mastevton Methodist Synod was held yesterday afternoon. The Methodist Times Committee s report was received and adopted. Rev. A .E. Waite dealt with matters concerning connexional funds. Mr C E. Taylor presented the report of the Methodist Local Preachers Mutual Aid Association. Rev. R. E. Fordyce brought forward a resolution which was adopted : “That synod urges the conference to approach the Government with a view to the granting of wider powers to the police to enable them to control more efficiently the supplying and drinking of intoxicating liquor in vehicles m the vicinity of dance-halls with a view to checking the unseemly conduct often associated with public dances. Rev. J. H. Allen was thanked for his services as district home mission secretary and recommended to. the conference for reappointment. The thanks of the synod were tendered to Rev. R. B. Gosnell, who for the last four years has rendered most acceptable and capable service to the district. The chairman was cordially thanked for his wise, courteous and efficient control of the synod business. Rev. A. Blakemore, assistant secretary, was thanked, as was Rev. G. M. Roberts, who had performed theMuty of journal secretary. The local Press, and that of Hastings, were cordially thanked for generous and courteous publication of the synod reports. Visiting representatives expressed gratitude for the hospitality they had enjoyed through the kindness of the Ladies’ Guild, the Young Women s Bible classes and the individual hosts and hostesses. The synod expressed its thanks to the trustees of the Cuba Street Methodist Church for the use of the church property for the synod s meetings. The synod closed with the signing of the journal. ’
