CHAFFCUTTERS’ AWARD.
' FRAMED IN CANTERBURY. Per Press Association. • TIMARU, Nov.. 23. Complete agreement was reached in Conciliation Council to-day between the South Canterbury Chaffcutter, Employers’ Association and the New Zealand Workers’ Union in framing a new award to be enforced between the Rangitata aid Waitaki Rivers. Rates of pay agreed on were : Where seven men are employed, driver 3s sd, feeder 3s 2d, ordinary hands 2s 6d 100 bags; where six men are employed, driver 3s sd, feeder 3s 2d, ordinary hands 2s 9d. On three-knife cutters employing one man le6s the rates are : Driver 3s lid, feeder 3s Bd, ordinary hands 3s 4d. When cutting straw and chaff lOd extra per 100 bags is to be paid each hand employed. Cooks’ wages were fixed at £3 10s a week and found.
A special clause was inserted requiring employers to provide reasonable protection for men while travelling on the road.
