Following 149 cases of typhoid fever at Croydon, and five cases in one family in North Kensington, the Ministry of Health has directed an inquiry into the causes and steps that have been taken to cope with it at Croydon. The outbreak was at first attributed to watercress, the sales of which at Covent Garden have been instantly brought to a standstill. Tliero had hitherto been eight deaths.
