WOODVILLE.
WOODVILLE, Nov. 16. An enjoyable social gathering to mark their home-coming was staged by Mr and Mrs K. Strand, who were recently married. There were opwa.rds of 100 guests present, and the time passed pleasantly with games and competitions, while items were given by Miss Lynda Richards, Mr J. Charles and Mr H. Brooker. The accompaniments and the music for the games were played by Mrs J. McCormick, Mr S. Worboys being M.C. A short sketch by Miss Richards and Mr Strand provided amusement. Mr R. H. Morgan thanked Mr and Mrs Strand for the enjoyable evening. In addition to a large number of members and friends, members of the Ngawapurua branch were present at the monthly meeting of the Papatawa Women’s Institute. Mrs A. Dickens presided. Reference was made to the illness of two members, Mrs C. F, Baker and Mrs L. E. Gleadow (treasurer) who were reported to he progressing satisfactorily. Three new members wero elected. Arrangements were made for the Christmas party next month. A Christmas novelty competition was won by Mrs C. Sage, senr., and Miss J. Eases'. Another competition was won by Miss C. Eades. Mrs Sandbrook gave an address on papier, maclie work. In a challenge match against the Dannevirke Club for the Gosling Stars, the Woodville Bowling Club retained the trophy by a margin of 18 pioiiits. A visit was made by several members of the Woodville R.S.A. Club to Dannevirke to play a snooker match with the returned men there for the possession of the Armstrong Shield. On the aggregate, Dannevirke won by 35 points.
