FOUR WINNERS.

BEAU PERE STOCK. PROGENY’S EARLY SUCCESS. (By “Spectator.”) Progeny of the Son-in-Law horse Beau Pere, which realised record bidding for the first stock of any sire at tho national yearling sales in January, have been racing prominently in both. New Zealand and Australia, despite the fact that the new season is just under way. There have come from them four winners already. These are Amigo, Gay Son, Arvakur, and Sudan, and they have fully vindicated tho judgment of critics who, 'at the January sales, spoke highly of the stock of Beau Pere. The youngsters have been annexing important juvenile events very early in the season.

Amigo, from Adorable, was the first to score when he won the juvenile event at Masterton, while Sudan, from Sahara, of tho Desert Gold family, got on tho winning list at Hastings. She is trained by Mrs A. W. McDonald at Awapuni, and shows quality. Arvakur, from the Chief Ruler mare The Begum, and a half-brother to Stretlo, won the Musket Stakes at the Auckland spring meeting after previously finishing second to the Lord Wardon gelding Protector, who has won three on end, and is one of the smartest juveniles in commission.

Gay -Son, the first foal of La Moderne, won the Nursery Handicap on the first day at Masterton, another of the Beau Pere progeny in Peerless filling second place. Peerless races in the colours of Cuddle, for she was purchased at Trentham by Mr R. J. Murphy for 425 guineas. She is from Prestige, a brilliant two-year-old herself, and a sister to Honour, Episode, and Homily (who has recently won twice in Australia) and a half-sister to Heritage. Prestige is a grand-dam of Eulogy, recognised as the most successful brood mare over imported to New Zealand. Peerless has been shaping very well in her training and is expected to develop into a high-class winner. There is every indication that Beau Pere, who was sold to Australia at tho Westmere dispersal sale in January, is going to distinguish himself as a really groat sire. His progeny have been racing well in Australia, where Bonheur de Rose filled second place in tho A.J.C. Gimcraok Stakos, Beau Frere has run two close sec l onds in his only starts in Victoria, and the smart filly Bon lleur do Pero was beaten a length in the Two-Year-Old Stakes by Homily at Randwick on Saturday, j Numerous others of Beau Pere’s first 1 foals yet to appear have been showing great promise. Among them are the Hawera colt Lord Cavendish, a Hastings colt Ivor and a filly Kathbella, also from Hastings, while in Australia G. Price is elated to have a brilliant colt by Beau Pere in The Squire, who topped the sales at Trentham when he was purchased by Mr E. J. Watt for 1050 guineas. This colt was broken in and received his initial education at the hands of Mrs A. W. McDonald (Awapuni), being taken across to Sydney by Price last Juno. He impressed when, he appeared on the Awapuni track for exercise.

Peerless, Amigo, Gay Son, and Lord Cavendish were to meet in tho Wellington Stakes at Wellington to-day, when they would be engaged in a formidable field of two-year-olds which included Surmount, Protector, Tc Hero (all winners), Russian Ballet, and Ortyx. Last Hack Race.

Running out hi? last nomination in hack events at Washdyke on Saturday, when he scored his fourth successive win in the past ten days, Petersham will in future race in open company.

Lady Graceful’s Return. Lady Graceful made a reappearance at Washdyke on Saturday after a long absence, her last previous race having been at the Grand National meeting in 1936. She ran fourth on Saturday in a strong field, making a surprisingly good showing. considering her lack of racing. Roaming’s Surprise. Roaming, who scored a surprise ,by annexing the Lawn Hack Handicap at Masterton when it was not thought that he had had time to reach racing condition, as it was his first run after being spelled since the Manawatu autumn mooting, is five years old. He had disappointed by his displays in the autumn. Ho is a bay gelding out of the Paper Money—Golden Pippin mare Watcrlow. From Speedy Family.

Aravkur has trained on nicely of lato and was responsible for a pleasing performance in accounting for the Musket Stakes at Ellorslie. He was -well drawn at tho start, and jumpii— out smartly, was never headed, winning with something in hand. This colt comes from a very speedy family, ranking as a relative to Mazir and Stretto, both good winners. Summed up on his form at Avondale and Elk-relic, the sou of Beau Pero should soon extend his record.

To Contest Classics. First Flutter, who is engaged in coming classic races, took tho eye at Ellerslie. She is a chestnut filly by Captain Bunsby from Marchette, owned by the Wellington sportsman, Mr C. E. Robertson, and trained by A. Cook. The dam of this youngster is a _ half-sister by Limond to To Kara, Lucius, Queen March, Te Hoia, and the recent Indian winnor Kahapa, so that on breeding alone she should be good.
