MOVEMENTS IN BRITAIN. RECEPTION TO KING AND QUEEN. ENTHUSIASTIC CROWDS. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Oct. 19. Their Majesties, beginning their tour of Yorkshire arrived at Hull where they received a great welcome. After lunching at the Guildhall they left for York where they were met by the Princess Royal and Lord Harewood. A large crowd gave Their Majesties an enthusiastic welcome.
After a visit to a factory where they saw the different processes in the manufacture of chocolates Their Majesties had tea with the Lord Mayor at Mansion House and subsequently left for Harewood House where they are staying to-niglit. Two other Royal visits began today. The streets of Devenport were lined with cheering people when the Duke and Duchess or Gloucester arrived, after a tour of Cornwall and Devon, in time for luncheon at Admiralty House given by the Comman-der-in-Ch:ef. Afterwards the Duchess launched the 5300 tons cruiser, Gloucester and later she opened extensions to the maternity nurses homes. Tomorrow the Duke lays the foundation stone of the library block at the University College at Exeter. The Duke and Duchess of Kent began a two-days tour of south Wales by visiting Carmarthen. The Duke laid the foundation stone of extensions to Trinity College and the Duchess opened a'new wing comprising maternity and general wards at the County Infirmary. They later reached Swansea where the Duke was installed as Chancellor of University of Wales. Tho Duke proceeds on Thursday to Blackpool wliere he names a new motor lifeboat of tho National Lifeboat Institution, of which he is president. TOUR OF YORKSHIRE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Oct. 18. In view of the State opening of Parliament to-morrow week the King and Queen inspected the House of Lords. Earlier to-day before returning to London from Royal Lodge, Windsor Great Park, Their Majesties visited Windsor Castle and inspected alterations and improvements carried out to the private apartments during their stay in Scoltand. VISIT TO INDIA. • LONDON, Oct. 4.1 An announcement that the King and Queen will hold a Coronation Durbar at Delhi in December, 1938, is expected to be made in the King’s Speech, says the Sunday Times. The reassembly of Parliament lias been fixed for October 26. It is anticipated that the King and Queen, will spend several weeks in India. When they return from Scotland they will embark on a busy autumn programme. They will first visit Windsor and examine plans for modernising the castle. Their Majesties will also arrange for the reception of the King of the Belgians, who will make an official visit in November.
