THE NEW SESSION.

BILLS ALREADY PREPARED. BUSY TIME AHEAD. WELLINGTON, Aug. 31. The finishing touches are being given by Ministers to legislative proposals for the coming session of Parliament, prior to their submission for Cabinet s consideration. There will be a number of Bills ready when the. Parliamentary machine is set in motion next week, each member of the Government having his share of responsibility in the sessional work.

The Ministers seen yesterday were unable to give an indication of .the nature of the legislation of which they will be in charge until Cabinet had considered the sessional programme, but it is understood that a busy time for all is ahead.

Officials having to do with Parliamentary affairs stated that the now rapidly closing recess had been one of the busiest in their experience for many years. There was the last session’s legislation to bring into operation and, atop of all, an unusually large number of important conferences had been held for which members of the Government required information necessary in their conduct. “Now,” remarked a prominent official, “there is more heavy work for Ministers and the; departments they control in preparing for legislative effect to the decisions of the conferences, in line with the Government’s policy.” The Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. W. E. Parry, said last evening that included in the matters lie was submitting for tlie Government’s consideration would he a proposal for the bringing into being of the National Sports Council, to which the recent representative conference of New Zealand sports bodies had given approval. “I am convinced,” added Mr Parry, “that when the national organisation for our sports and recreation is established, the advantages and benefits will be felt by sports bodies and the people as a whole.”
