SUSTENANCE OFFENCE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 30. “I'm sorry that what I propose to do shall be an infliction on your children, but it’s the only way,” said the Magistrate (Mr E. Stilwell) in imposing a month’s hard labour on Charles Evans, aged 53, a labourer, who admitted obtaining £l3 Is lOd in excess sustenance by means of false employment declarations. Ho was stated to have four children, the eldest aged eight, and to be living with their mother, to whom he was not .married. He had not declared the 10s a. week she was receiving.
