BASKETBALL.
DOMINION TOURNAMENT.
MANAWATU COMPETITORS
The Dominion Basketball tournament commences at Auckland to-morrow, and the following players are representing Manawatu:—
Misses P. Payrie (H.5.0.G.), J. Clevely (Tech. 0.G.), I. Stuart (H.5.0.G.), J. Barrie (Tech. 0.G., captain), J. Bishop (H.S.O.G:), B. Mason (Tech. 0.G.), M. Bevan (Technical), M. Waldegrave have represented Manawatu before, while Misses I. Stuart and J. Bishop have represented other associations, so that, although the Manawatu team is, for the first time for some years, selected entirely from the Palmerston North centre, there are enough experienced players to make a fairly well balanced team.
The tournament will he especially strenuous this year, as the team plays eight matches in three and a-half days, but the players have been training for some time, so that they may be expected" to give quite a" good account of themselves. This year, for the first time, there are three grades of play in the tournament, and Manawatu have been classified with the second grade teams, so that all their gnnies should he strenuously contested. Manawatu’s draw of matches is: Wednesday, at 9 a.m., v. Southland Minor; 3.30 p.m., v. Hutt Valiev. Thursday: 9 a.m., v. Taranaki ; 1.50 p.m,, v South Canterbury. Friday: 9 a.m:, v. Ashburton; 11.30 a.m., v. Poverty Bay; 3.30 p.m., v. Wairarapa. Saturday: 10.40 a.m., v. Waikato.
