IN SHANGHAI AREA. CHINESE AIASSING TROOPS. (United Pres 6 Association —By Electric „ Telegraph—Copyright.) Received August 31, 12.30 p.m. SHANGHAI, Aug. 30. The Japanese rushed up reserves to tho front lines between Shanghai and Woosung, where bitter fighting is proceeding without apparent advantage to either side. The Japanese spokesman admitted that Woosung city and fort are still in .Chinese handsJapanese sources state that the Chinese are now massing sixteen divisions round Shanghai. The War Council at Nanking has appointed General Pai-Chungai Com-mander-iii-Chief of all forces in the field and General Cliantse-Chung Com* mander-in-Chief of the Kiangsu, Chekiang, and Anhui forces. General Pai-Chungai was one of tho leaders of the Kwangsi revolt who held aloof from Nanking until the hostilities commenced against Japan. His appointment,is an indication of long-standing differences being settled in the in* terests of a united front.
WOUNDING OF AAIBASSADOR,
SIZE OF FLAG ON CAR,
; (British' Official Wireless.) Received August 31, 1.45 p.m. RUGBY, Aug. 30. In the British Government’s Note to Japan on the wounding of the Ambassador reference was made to the Union Jack flown above the roof of the car in which the Ambassador was travelling at the time. The size of the flag was given as eighteen by twelve inches; it has now been recovered and measured by the British authorities in Shanghai and was in fact thirty by eighteen inches.
